Raiffeisenlandesbank Oberösterreich Headquarters
The new headquarters of Raiffeisenlandesbank Oberösterreich in the city center of Linz will serve as the new central cornerstone of the RLB OÖ campus. The interior of this sustainably designed hybrid timber building provides an inspiring work environment for about 1,000 employees. Featuring transparency, openness, authentic materials and green islands, the new build is set to transform the bank campus and its surroundings into a sustainable urban neighborhood.
Central connector
The new structure embodies Raiffeisenlandesbank OÖ’s commitment to opening up to the surrounding neighborhood and wider urban society. On the campus, it acts as a central connector that interlinks not only RLB OÖ’s existing buildings, but also the newly created public cityscape.
Through a series of incisions in the building volume, which rises above a trapezoidal footprint, dynamic recesses and projections are created that draw the street space into the building. Inside, an open terrace landscape unfolds, spiraling upwards around the central atrium to the roof. This structure is also reflected on the façade as a continuous, transparent strip of extensive glazed surfaces transitioning to roof terrace stairs.
Its dynamically staggered levels allow the new build to mediate between the bank’s low-rise main building and the adjacent Blumau Tower, blending harmoniously into the existing urban fabric.
"We’re not building on a blank slate, but enhancing an existing urban environment — with respect for its surroundings, added value for the neighborhood, and a clear focus on sustainability."
– RLB OÖ CEO Reinhard Schwendtbauer
High tech meets nature
The building envelope merges two contrasting design features – an engineered layer composed of glass and aluminum on its outside and a natural, organic layer of wood on its inside. Even from outside, this arrangement draws the observer’s view to the striking timber structure, which is deliberately left exposed. The warm appeal of this material creates a welcoming atmosphere and a comfortable microclimate in conjunction with planted spots distributed across the interiors.
The publicly accessible ground floor includes the spacious atrium. It houses a restaurant for employees and a café that is also open to visitors. On the first floor, bank employees welcome their clients. This story also accommodates an event hall and a conference area. The upper floors are reserved for employee offices. All stories are designed with collaboration in mind and provide flexible remodeling options.
Open areas for interaction and collaboration, including coffee bars, surround the central atrium, through which light floods the entire building via a glass roof. Rooms for confidential discussions and spaces for focused work are located closer to the façade. The indoor garden, rooftop terraces, and coffee points offer ample space for informal meetings and chance encounters.
Urban transformation
The new headquarters provides a pleasant environment for employees, clients, and locals alike. An urban plaza will take shape in front of the building, which is nestled among green spaces and a traffic-calmed area. Across the street, a new green neighborhood park with a children’s play area will be created.
"The office of the future must convince, not compel. As people increasingly have the freedom to choose where to perform their tasks, the office competes with many other possible places of work. Therefore, the goal is a building whose features, spatial qualities, and tangible corporate culture make it so appealing that employees enjoy coming in and experience its added value."
– RLB OÖ CEO Reinhard Schwendtbauer
The new headquarters of Raiffeisenlandesbank Oberösterreich paves the way towards a sustainable urban neighborhood. The bank considers itself to be an integral part of the urban community, which is why it contributes to actively shaping the urban environment through this building.
