Munich Arena

With the Munich Arena, one of Europe’s most modern concert venues is taking shape in Bavaria – setting a new benchmark for live entertainment. Designed to host up to 20,000 fans, the arena is dedicated entirely to concerts and live music. Every space, every technical component, and every line of sight has been meticulously developed to deliver the best possible musical experience – with outstanding acoustics, clear orientation, and short distances. Conceived in collaboration with Populous Architects, the Munich Arena combines emotion and experience with cutting-edge technology and exceptional visitor comfort.

Located directly adjacent to Munich International Airport, the design of the Munich Arena deliberately breaks away from the strict orthogonal grid of the airport’s architecture. At the western edge of the airport grounds, the building integrates seamlessly into a generously landscaped park environment – the Meadow. This softly contoured open space connects architecture, landscape, and atmosphere, creating an inviting campus-like character. With its use of native plants creating a cooling microclimate, it offers a pleasant outdoor experience even on hot summer days.

Elevated and visible from the nearby motorway, the arena becomes a striking landmark for both arriving guests and passersby, while its layoutallows for clear wayfinding with separate, multilevel entrances. Visitors reach the main entrance via a spacious forecourt, the Arena Plaza, leading directly into the ground floor, which merges seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Additional entrances on the upper level are accessed via gently meandering paths through the Meadow, guiding visitors to the elevated podium that wraps around the arena.

The façade reflects the cultural identity of the region: its distinctive exoskeleton in the form of the Bavarian rhombus gives the arena its unmistakable appearance. With a span of around 100 meters, the structural system enables a completely column-free concert hall – setting new standards both locally and internationally. The stage itself can be flexibly positioned within the arena, either frontally or centrally. The tiered seating ensures excellent acoustics and unobstructed views from every seat. Surrounding the main hall, club lounges, bars, and restaurants offer a diverse and premium range of experiences for all guests.

Behind the scenes, the precisely planned architecture ensures seamless interaction between technology, and event management – the foundation for unforgettable live experiences.

With its uncompromising focus on music, emotion, and fan experience, the Munich Arena establishes a new benchmark for international live events – a place that unites architecture and entertainment.
