Where medical research, clinical practice, and industry converge: Groundbreaking for iQ space Berlin
On September 16, in the presence of Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil, the groundbreaking ceremony laid the foundation for iQ space Berlin—one of Germany’s most significant future projects for biomedical research. Our design for the new center is conceived as a start-up incubator with production facilities, creating a biotech ecosystem for innovative treatment options using gene and cell therapies. With its prime waterfront location at Nordhafen—directly adjacent to Bayer’s headquarters, the Charité campus, and Berlin Central Station—the project underscores Berlin’s role as an international hub for life sciences. Completion is scheduled for 2028.
“This center brings together cutting-edge research, clinical practice, and industry in this form for the very first time. We are proud that iQ spaces, with its long-standing experience in developing complex life science projects, can play a key role in delivering innovations to patients faster,” explained Vincent Wege, Managing Partner of iQ spaces, at the groundbreaking ceremony.
Marcus Fißan, Managing Director and Partner at HENN, added: “Our design for iQ space creates an open, interdisciplinary research and work environment—one which encourages the natural flow of innovation, communication and knowledge transfer. With its transparent design, the new building embodies the idea of ‘Science on Display’ and makes the research topics being explored tangible to the surrounding community.”
