Stefan Sinning gives insights into the Staatstheater Augsburg project
Augsburg's mayor Eva Weber invited Stefan Sinning, partner and managing director at HENN, to her podcast “Augsburg direkt” to talk about the new ensemble of the Staatstheater Augsburg. The conversation focuses on the tendering process for the renovation of the heritage-listed Großes Haus and the subsequent commission to design the new Kleines Haus – and how we are dealing with adapting and further developing the previous plans while construction work is already underway.
For Sinning, who comes from Augsburg, giving the project new impetus is a personal matter: "The city of Augsburg has seized a huge opportunity here to expand its municipal theater. If you look around the country today, you'll see that many cities in Germany are facing a similar challenge: how to deal with their cultural buildings. In many cities, there is discussion, postponement, and delay, but here in Augsburg, things are getting done."
He sees the lively discussion in the city about the plans as a good sign: “For us at HENN and for me personally, cultural buildings are simply essential building blocks of our society. They are the foundations of our democracy.”
