Berlin transforming into a new global life science hub: Groundbreaking for iQ Space Berlin
With the laying of the foundation stone, iQ Space Berlin was inaugurated as a pioneering research and innovation center at Nordhafen in the heart of the German capital. The project is conceived as a collaborative ecosystem for biotechnology and healthcare, bringing together leading institutions including Bayer AG, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH), and the Bayer Co.Lab. Completion is due in 2028.
For the groundbreaking ceremony, representatives from science, industry, and politics – including Governing Mayor of Berlin Kai Wegner – gathered to celebrate this important milestone. The project plays a significant role in Berlin’s life sciences ecosystem and Germany’s future competitiveness in biotechnology.
Marcus Fißan, partner and managing partner at HENN, “Our goal was to develop a highly flexible life sciences property that intelligently integrates research, production, and collaboration while also creating a distinctive hub within Berlin’s science cluster.”
iQ Space Berlin’s flexible and modular architecture fosters interdisciplinary collaboration while placing people and scientific exchange at the center. Guided by the ‘Science on Display’ concept, the transparent design opens up research activities to the surrounding community and creates a strong connection between science, the city, and nature.
A television report by ZDF provides additional insights and impressions from the ceremony and the vision behind the project:
