Work Hard - Play Hard

Documentary film and podium discussion

HENN Akademie, April 4, 2014

The documentary film by director, Carmen Losmann and the Hupe film and television production from 2011, deals with the new forms of work organisation and personnel management methods.

The pursuit of profit maximisation and unlimited growth hit upon the human resource. Carmen Losmann shot a highly disturbing film about modern working environments.  There are to be no limits between work and lifestyle. Nothing is left to chance in the selection, motivation and training of tomorrow’s employees. Self-optimisation is on the agenda. In our modern working environment, reorganisation of a business also means the reorganisation of the employees.

Carmen Losmann was born in 1978, studied marketing in England and film at the Kunsthochschule für Medien (Academy of Media Arts) in Cologne. Even during her studies she was shooting short films dealing with the different facets of the working world. Her debut film "Work Hard – Play Hard" was awarded numerous prizes, including the Grimme prize 2014. She is currently working on a new documentary film project sponsored by the Gerd-Ruge scholarship, which looks at the deeper relationships between our monetary and economic system.
