Klinikum Georgsheil

In the midst of green pastures and farmland, a new settlement is being created with the Zentralklinikum Georgsheil. The project is characterised by the successful translation of all functions of a mega-clinic into an ensemble on a human scale. With "A hospital as a new village" as its motto, the newly-built area will be integrated organically and in close proximity to the surroundings of Georgsheil, while ensuring top-class and future-oriented medical care. In addition, the new location will create identity and trust, communicate with the surroundings and lay the foundation for a new sense of community for the three clinic locations that have been brought together.
People are at the centre of this project – the patients and staff. The architects have developed an employee-friendly structure with short distances and easy orientation for efficient working, and are focusing the design on high workplace amenity quality, e.g. by including protected and attractive courtyards and maximising the use of daylight. At the core of the building complex is the clinic's centrally-located park. A glazed "ring" with wooden slats surrounds it, creating immediate access to nature inside the ensemble with high transparency and warm colours.
The facade reinterprets regional construction methods and makes reference to materials and building shapes from the surrounding area. Characteristic here is the play of the roofs: By turning the gable, gable roofs are created over the individual modules, and thus an aesthetic alteration of different roof silhouettes.
An essential component of the new building is maximum flexibility, sustainability and the creation of ideal conditions for future topics of the clinic world such as digitalisation and artificial intelligence. The project sees a smooth interaction between the future-oriented logistics of the clinical functions and the regionally-adapted architecture.
