Bayer Interior

Bayer's office building on Müllerstrasse in Berlin was characterised by an oppressive interior that reflected the architecture of the 1970s but no longer embodied a contemporary working environment. The focus during renovation was on the design of a representative foyer with rest areas, a café and lounges. In the process, the ground and upper floors, as well as the offices of the board of directors, were completely redesigned and transformed into places with high amenity quality through style-conscious interior design.

The entrance hall is dominated by a minimalist, calm design. Restrained forms and materials direct the focus to the essentials and represent the core values of Bayer AG: transparency, integrity and clarity. Vertical greenery at the end of the entrance hall breaks up the appearance of the interior and softens the entire space. In the spirit of the New Work movement, the Wiener Cafe is a space for communication, exchange and togetherness, and a place where employees can take a break from their work.

The first floor houses the cafeteria, which merges with the neighbouring rooms through extensive glazing and varying room heights, creating a flowing transition. Carpeted areas also form lounge-like spaces that are ideal for informal lingering. In terms of colour, the spectrum varies in always restrained tones from beige to anthracite fabric surfaces.

The executive offices are located on the fourteenth floor, with internal and external lounge areas for both internal and shared use. They are equipped with similar furniture to that in the café and meeting areas.

The aesthetics of the concept derive from the existing structure and complement it with modern elements. The overall goal of the renovation was to connect the indoor and outdoor spaces and to increase well-being in the common areas.
