DYNAMIC SPATIAL CONTINUUM: HENN wins the international competition for the new Continental AG main company offices in Hanover, DE

07.06.2017 - The new company headquarters of Continental consolidates all the facilities formerly spread across the city in one location, simultaneously marking the eastern approach to Hanover, the capital of Lower Saxony. The site, which is organised into a northern and a southern construction segment, encompasses a campus-like freestanding development, consisting of individual buildings connected to each other via bridges.

The central element of the design idea is the “Loop”, which symbolically embodies the power of communication and cooperation. As a space providing ubiquitous accessibility and interactions, the development can be experienced both from inside and from outside. It provides a wide array of spaces for meetings, conferences, cafeterias and informal workstations, and opens up scope for creativity and knowledge exchanges. The “Loop” is a dynamic spatial continuum, bringing all the staff together in a horizontal hierarchy and intermeshing the individual departments with each other.

In the words of Dr Elmar Degenhart, the Chairman of the Executive Board, “The design by the HENN office outstandingly architecturally symbolises and promotes Continental’s innovation and networking culture.”

The start of construction is scheduled for April 2018. The relocation of the staff is to be completed by 2021 within the framework of the company’s 150th jubilee.

Ground-breaking ceremony for contract furniture: The Brunner Innovation Factory

18.05.2017 - The innovation building as a hybrid of the most diverse programmes: development, design, prototyping and production encounter open office worlds, showrooms and a canteen.

The architecture took up the themes of the structure and materials of the objects using modular wood components for the slender roof arrangement, which is visible through the glass facade. The effortlessness of the construction reflects the efficiency of this principle. The research and development areas, offices and bistro are located on defined levels along the transparent facade and are connected by galleries. The lightweight construction of the matte, reflective metal facade lends the assembly and dispatch area an industrial atmosphere. The high-quality material reflects the verdant surroundings and complements the warm wooden interior. The ground-breaking ceremony marks the continuation of the expansion of the production facilities of the family-run company, which was founded in 1977. The building creates an ideal environment with stylish workplaces and reflects the company’s sense of procedural and sustainable development.

InnoChain research fellow Dimitrie A. Stefanescu joins HENN

11.05.2017 –
Dimitrie, a maker of tools, architect, designer and programmer, joins our HENN Performing team for the wonderful month of May and will work closely together with Giovanni Betti (Head of HENN Performing) at our Berlin office in Alexanderstraße.

As part of our SPEAKERS' CORNER Thursday talks and introduction to our colleagues, he held a little afternoon lecture about his ongoing joint PhD program at London Bartlett School of Architecture and HENN hosted by the InnoChain ETN network based in Copenhagen.

The goal of the research project is to examine how complex simulation-based design can be collated and communicated internally, within a design team, and externally, with the various technical and non-technical stakeholders involved in the design process. Creativity is no longer an isolated act of ideation, but a collaborative phenomenon.

A significant part of Dimitrie's current research is his ongoing development of the Speckle - an open design communication platform to bring parametric design to the web.

InnoChain ETN is a shared research training environment examining how advances in digital design tools challenge building culture enabling sustainable, informed and materially smart design solutions. The network of different academic and industrial partners aims to train a new generation of interdisciplinary researchers with a strong industry focus that can effect real changes in the way we think, design and build our physical environment.
